New El Cajon rig

El Cajon just placed a brand new KME eninge in service - Engine 7, replacing a Pierce that I believe was from the 80s. That with their new truck has ECFD pretty much up to date.

Kinda wierd...the original Engine 23 was replaced a couple of months ago with the old Pierce from station 4. The new engine 4 was the 2006 engine that was originally placed in service at station 46. So I don't know where 23s went...maybe to 46? Or do they finally have the quint in service?

SDFD Radio Problems

What's up with SDFD command channels...especially C-6. Repeaters dropping every other word, dispatch switching command to tac just to make contact with IC. Seems vey dangerous...dispatchers and IC's all talking about it. (B-2 says 9-A is AWFUL!!!)

Quints

I notice that Quint-46 is referred to as such, but the new truck 14 - which appears to be a Qunit - is designated a truck. Anyone know the difference?

New Medics

I've ben hearing dispatches for Medic-80 and 81...not special events, but everyday medical aids. Are these additional "peak load" units or are they assigned somewhere permenantly?

Bearcat 296

What's the digital audio like on the 296. I have both a Pro-96 and a 250, and althogh I prefer the ease of operation from the 250, the digital audio - with no agc- is awful. Is the 296 any bettet?

Heartland

What a day...Heartland has been having paging, CAD, and alerting problems all day long. Everything is verbal status only...likely to be that way overnight.

Dispatchers sound like thye're ready to blow a fuse with all the radio traffic and status checks.
