You can find detailed maps of SDPD beats and SDFD battalion boundaries and station locations (as of 2007, anyway) here:
http://home.rr.com/furry
There are also detailed google maps of each individual fire station's area on the 'links' page.
Beware, the enlarged maps are 4.5 Megabytes each.

Re: sd fire zone maps (via google)
I have a link to the google maps on my (very basic) webpage on the 'Links' page (tab), along with the main page's large jpegs of the SDPD's beat boundaries (as of 2007) and the SDFD's Battalion boundaries and station locations, also from 2007 I believe. The 'enlarge photo' button will bring you to t...

Re: Close Call Help ( another Dumb NEWB question)
First off, you need to be aware that 'close call' is giving you the INPUT frequencies that the mobile units are transmitting on, not the repeater outputs, which are presumably much further away from you. On UHF, 450-454.9875 is outputs (repeaters), 455-459.9875 is INputs to those repeaters, same for...

'Yellow' is part of the San Diego Independent News Association. News Stringers, an organized group of them who share info and tips. Yes, there are days/weeks when traffic on Yellow is very low. Though it's mostly active after midnight and before 8am, at best. Those on Yellow are paid members of the ...

Be aware also that Uniden provides a perfectly good program to use in programming your 396. Some folks like other programs (not-free) with more features, but for simple programming, the free one Uniden will let you download (once you register on their website) is all you need.

The Phone Patch talkgroup/frequncies are for field units (normally sargents and above only would have access, I expect) to phone patch from a scene. What they'd use if they didn't have a personal cellphone available. Very rare use, given the availability on most any scene of multiple cellphones thes...
