Rancho Fire JPA Considering Moving to Old Oceanside PD HQ

Post by jjwool »

I was watching a replay of the last City Council meeting as the council was considering uses for the old PD HQ on Mission Ave. The Interim Fire Chief was speaking and said that there is a proposal in the the works from Rancho Fire JPA Dispatch considering moving to the old Oceanside PD HQ. Some of the reasons cited were the current location of the dispatch center and the physical building. Its in the middle of a wooded area and its construction is subject to fire dangers. Additionally, when Escondido FD joins the JPA Dispatch (projected 2 to 3 years), there would not be enough room and the JPA Dispatch Center would have to move. Also cited as a reason is the location. Its just east of I-5 a couple of blocks.

Also, co-located at the building would the City of Oceanside EOC.

Local veterans organizations also want the old PD HQ for a home and thought they were going to get it for sure until the latest proposal came about.

The City Council feels having the JPA Dispatch Center in Oceanside would be a real plus. They all seem to be leaning toward having the dispatch center here and finding another home for the veteran organizations.
