Cloning a 796D from a 250D?

Does someone here know if this can be done? I tried using a shielded serial cable with a gender adapter with the Master being the 250D and the Slave being the 796D. I just got an error on the 250D when attempted. Any thoughts?

Thanks 318. I emailed Uniden and they said yes, with the right cable. I don't think they know what they're really talking about. Looking at my ARC250 Software it seems the 796D communicates at higher baud rate then the 250D and I thinking that is why it won't work.

I have been successfully cloning my 796D from my 296D for many months. Actually, both directions. You need to use a "null modem" cable or adapter between the units. Readily available at your favorite Radio Shack store. The only programing issue is the difference in the delay settings available. Everything else transfers just fine. Good Luck!

You should be able to change the baud rate on the menu somewhere. Look around..

You should be able to change the baud rate on the menu somewhere. Look around on the scanner's menu

I was the Guest log in above by the way.

Okay, I am trying to clone a 796D with a 250D not a 296D. I believe because the 796D and 296D are of the same generation, it will work between those units. Since there is a generation gap between the 250D and the 796D, is that the reason I can't get this to work?

318, do you know why this won't work?

My mistake. My radios are actually a 785D and a 296D. I have the "25" card installed in the 785 so I think of it as a 796. I don't know if there is a real difference between a 785 and a 796, or a 250 and a 296, but my radios "of different generations" have been cloned back and forth successfully for many months. Have you tried a null modem cable or adapter? Check the manual section on "Remote Interface".

Guest-ec, You were right it did work with Null Modem connector. It will make programming my mobile radio easier since I don't have a laptop with a serial port. Thanks!

And thanks to w6pix for the idea of an A/B switch for antennas. I did my install this weekend and the reception was better then expected for both 800 and low band using AS cellular glass mount and a RS all band mag mount.
