No, it's not illegal for them to ask. It's, in some cases, illegal for them to demand you answer. From a site with a fair amount of info on this subject, at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/richpub/syltguides/fullview/R3PKS85LDL7IOE Don’t make a big fuss and then cave in. Don’t expect to get wages or Medic...

There are also available link ranges from: 2.30 GHz – 2.70 GHz 6.43 GHz – 7.12 GHz The units are low power (around 5 watts), and highly directional unless being used for very short range...

Bear in mind that putting CAD on the web costs money and personel time, neither of which is in much supply in most public safety groups. They cannot just tie the 'real' CAD to the public web, due to privacy issues. So someone must code each CAD call manually for 'web allowed' or not, which is more w...

The scanner antenna will work, for VHF scanning purposes. Not very good for shortwave. PL-259 means 'Plug, type 259', while SO-259 means 'Socket, type 259', in other words, the male and female halves. The SO is on the back of the radio, and on the antenna. An RG-8 type cable from Radio shack comes w...

Small addition to SD City Paging, I've found they're now paging on 155.685 in addition to the older 154.085

Unfortunately, still all in GOLAY paging mode.

* 154.080 - 165.5 Data Tones
* 154.090 - 165.5 Data Tones
------
This would be City of San Diego, GOLAY type paging for fire and PD, on 154.085

If you're having trouble identifying data sounds, here's a great page with samples of just about all data types:

The Pro-2050 is an analog only trunking scanner. While you can enter the RCS south zone, you will not be able to monitor almost all of the Sheriff's talkgroups, as they are digital. The fire talkgroups are mostly analog, and can be listened to, though, on that scanner. Trunking systems do not have '...
