I think they're heading for Palomar right now with a patient from Ocotillo Wells. Then I think they're going to Carlsbad Fire Station 5 for an open house. Copter 1 is there now. Mercy Air 6 is in Fallbrook for another public event.

New Mercy Air 5?

I've heard several references on the air to a new helicopter being used as Mercy Air 5. Anybody know what they're flying now?

The support facilities for the Sheriff's birds is at Gillespie (the department maintains their aircraft themselves). I believe SDFD contracts out their maintenance. Don The mechanics that work on the SDFD helicopters have shirts that have "RSI Rotorcraft Support, Inc." on the back, so pre...

I noticed a couple of times earlier this week that the Cal Fire morning report only listed one CL415. Did they have a maintenance issue with one of those too?

I heard air attack 690 yesterday and today call in to Monte Vista for flight following for "carding flights." I guess they must be qualifying a new pilot. During today's flight they were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire along the I-8. No fire was found, but 690 did recon the report...

Cal Fire air assets

It looks like Cal Fire is reinforcing their air assets at Ramona. On the web cam there is what appears to be a P-3 tanker visible and the morning report mentioned a heli-tanker.

There is a Santa Ana condition forecast for the weekend.

It's interesting how Cal Fire keeps changing how they deal with the extra resources in their morning report. This morning's report listed "two air attacks, four tankers, three copters, and two scoopers."

There doesn't seem to be any consistency to the basing of the two helicopters. Usually it is Copter 1 that goes to Station 43, but sometimes it's Copter 2. Also, the amount of time spent there by either helicopter varies. Mostly, it seems like there is only a helicopter at 43 during the night. Typic...
