First off, it's really not good just to talk about antennas in physical size. It's more a matter of matching the frequency and this involves actual whip length and loading coils/matching coils. Size isn't what it seems in antenna land. I have a UHF antenna that's about 3 feet tall and another UHF th...

You're stuck with a big antenna. The wavelength for 39 Mhz are so big compared to 800, for example. You cannot really get great reception with anything less than an external antenna and it needs to be at least a few feet high. (My 39Mhz whip is about 4 feet) The alternative is a device I have seen t...

Not really. You need to get the antenna out of the metal cage (truck). First off, tell us what you are specifically listening to. Is CHP your primary goal, or an 800 Mhz system? That will make a difference in how you should go about it. It's really hard to get great performance on Both VHF(lo/high) ...

BTW, I think I posted one wrong TG. The correct "status bit" channels for the older scanners are:

4695 5175 5015

I beleive I put 4395 earlier.

Negative. They are not and have no plans as of now to move to the RCS. They have been replacing all of the Saber radios, which are getting very old now. They are just replacing those with XTS radios. I understand their plan is to move into 700Mhz as soon as it's vacated by TV. When? That's a big que...

So far, El Cajon office is the only one using the RCS. There are rumors flying about that 1) they are happy and will soon incoroprate all three San Diego offices onto the RCS 2) They are not happy and will go back to LoBand. I don't know. I've had both prespectives from good authority, so it's just ...

It's 9M Tac 31, just an overflow talkgroup. I suppose someone once heard Poway training on it and reported it to RadioRef as such. Normal to hear special events on the extra TG's. I guess they need a medial TAC group for all of the stabbing calls at Raider games. LOL

The CHP section, under the 10-CODES (Which are now CORRECT!) there is a link for CHP Lingo that is often heard on the CHP frequencies. This is a comprehensive listing, so if you're new to CHP scanning, check it out.
