programming RCS East - what to put in
What talkgroups should I be putting in for RCS East besides CHP, SDSO Rural, and the East county fire stuff? A couple weeks ago I was in El Cajon and put the RCS East into scan mode mainly heard CHP and SDSO. I also noticed Imperial County Sheriff was simulcast on 39472. Is this common or just a rar...

Here is a sound of it:

I'm not aware of anyone in San Diego using it.
LAPD had them before they went digital and I've heard it on some 39 MHz freqs during skip season.

US Customs - strange data bursts or encryption?
Lately I've been hearing a strange type of data burst used on Customs frequencies. It does not sound like DES, P25, or anything else I normally hear on the fedcom freqs. Here is an audio file sample of what I heard on one of their freqs tonight: http://members.cox.net/xiralos/163.125_data_bursts.mp3...

I use ARC250 for my BC796. Unfortunately it's not free. For free software nothing beats Andy's Programmer. It was designed for the BC780 but has been modified by third partys to work with the new Uniden models. It allows you to program the radio through an Excel spreadsheet which allows for very spe...

Sweet info! Regarding Border Patrol you should search between 167-168 and 170-174 MHz for the most active channels. Here in SD, they use heavy encryption so your chance of catching any clear comms is not likely. Here are some usually encrypted USBP/Fed freqs that I have picked up here in San Diego. ...

On air negotiations on HNT
Anyone hear the comms today on HNT? Basically there was a negotiator talking with a subject who was upset and was threating to shoot himself out in the desert. A few times I thought I was listening to CB CH-19... hahaha  I had to take a phone call and by the time I got back to the scanner the...
