Unit Designations Letter

Post by OneCoolCat »

Does anyone know what each letter designation means when referring to a SD law enforcement unit's call sign? For example I understand that for the unit "325 Sam", the Sam bit means he/she is a seargent. I also gather that King means K9 unit, and I think a Lincoln unit is a lieutenant. What about the others such as John, George, Nora, Yellow, etc?

That list needs to be updated. The 900 units are now "Northwestern" and dispatched by "Northern", and the traffic units are 3900. The PEOs are now 3200.

As you'll see on the SDPD page, Nora is K-9 for them, not King.
