im a little confused

hey guys. im new to the whole scanning thing and woundering if i just need to program talk group ids or if i need frequencies. i want to listen to sd fire but cant quite figure it out for the radio shack pro-433. thanks for all the you can give me.

yes, you need to input the frequencies first and then the talk group ID's

how do i find frequencies for the talk groups? all i have been able to find is the talk group ids.

Red,

You need to program the frequencies in as a MOTOROLA TYPE II system. See the manual. If the option for SPLINTER is there, toggle that to On I beleive for the SD system.

After you enter the system frequencies, then you put in the talkgroups. See the TRUNKING PRIMER

for an explanation of what "trunking" is. It might clear things up...

You can do it by the keypad, but you'll be much happier and keep your sanity if you use the computer, a program and the programming cable

sorry guys i have one more question. the tg ids i found here have 6 numbers and my scanner will only let me in put 5. any help is always appreciated.

If you have a 6-digit TGID with a zero in front, disregard the zero. Everything in San Diego area will have between 3 & 5 digits.
