Overview of San Diego County Comm Plans

Post by SkipSanders »

If you wish to read the County's planning document for updating, changing, and integrating communications over the next 10 years or so, here's the PDF of the plan. (18 Megabytes)

https://www.rcs800mhz.org/web/docs/San% ... 20RSTP.pdf

Indicates, for instance, that the County hopes to begin transitioning to a true P25 system in 2009, with completion in 2012.

Yes, 'security of communications' is often mentioned, so expect encryption to increase/become total.

Lots of good stuff about how things are now around the county.

will the rcs frequencies still be the same on the Regional Project 25 Radio System? You wont be able to listen to the county anymore? There will be lots of angry people if that happens.

It depends!

Lets see what comes first!

New RCS P-25 7.x 9600 baud system.
or
800MHz rebanding to the new 800 frequencies.

Plus don't forget we might have some stuff in 700MHz on the new trunk system. (Just like the Colorado state P25 9600 baud system)

Don Root talked about it in April,2007 on this post
"the channels used in the simulcast zones may be mixed 700 / 800 MHz"
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SanDiegoScan/message/1660

Somewhat on topic!
Only the uniden 796/296 & 396/996 will work on the 9600 baud system.
Uniden 785/250 wont track 9600 baud systems but still decode the audio in non trunking scan mode.

or GRE PSR-500/600 Digital Scanners will work on the newer RCS system.
Pro96/2096 umm Can't track 700Mhz P25 system.

Mike it was on page 61 on the PDF file

"After transitioning to a P25 network, the SDUA will be able to utilize narrowband (6.25kHz wide) 700 and 800 MHz frequencies, thus significantly increasing network capacity capable of operating decades into the future. Many of the radios currently being used on the RCS are capable of using both 700 and 800 MHz narrowband frequencies. The 700MHz spectrum being released to public safety agencies is immediately adjacent to the 800MHz frequencies being used by the RCS and the City of San Diego. The RCS and the City of San Diego have already reserved sufficient 700 MHz channels for future use in a Regional P25 Radio System."

San Diego Regional Project 25 Radio System
2008: Governance structure is developed and implemented for all San Diego & Imperial agencies
2009: RCS begins phased migration to Project 25
2011: Region-wide Interoperable Project 25 Radio System Deployed

Mike

Just think what we use now but all DIGITAL Talkgroups!
Just wont have any more analog talkgroups on the new system.

Austin, TX will be what RCS will be in 2011. but wont use 151 freqs like Austin system does.

Look at RadioReference.com 9600 Baud Project 25 Trunked Systems P-25 list (140 listed on the page).

Yes GRE PSR-500 or PSR-600 will work on any P-25 systems (new RCS system in 2010/2011)

Little off topic here ;)

DonStarr Win500 is the best software for the new GRE PSR-500/600 scanner.
$35.00 www.starrsoft.com/software/win500

plus Pro96com & UniTrunker data decoding software works with the PSR-500/600. Using the GRE USB cable.
