Sounding like they're going to appoint Gore immediately after, even though they can call a special election. Incumbents almost always win so they want to make sure the worst possible person is in there with no voter approval to begin with.

Since Gore is currently the undersheriff he will be acting Sheriff until one is elected. Apparently Gore is already making all the calls as Kolender is dealing with his wife's and his health. Jim Duffy will be running against Gore for the position.

They're not going to let Gore just be acting sheriff, they will appoint him.

Dianne Jacob's reply (written by Robert Spanbauer) to my letter said:

"Consistent with the voter-approved San Diego County Charter and Board Policy, the Board of Supervisors will carry out an appointment process for the purpose of filling the vacancy."

Jay La Suer seems to support self-defense wholeheartedly, so I'm voting for him.
