OK i understand firefighting equipment is specialized and whatnot, but why does ONE chopper (bell 212 or equivalent) cost $16 MILLION?!?!?! san diego PD air support spent something like $13 Million on 4 birds and FLIR equipment!!!

Larger bird, different equipment (like a water tank, heavy hoist, etc.) and the purchase price is spread over 15 years.
