FCC Announces Details of Field Office Closures (7/16/15)

The FCC announced details of a previously announced plan that would close 12 field offices, a reduction from an original plan of 16 office closures. Under the plan, the commission said it will require all field agents to be electrical engineers and will respond to all public-safety spectrum complaints within one day.

Offices in Anchorage, Alaska; Buffalo, New York; Detroit; Houston; Kansas City; Norfolk, Virginia; Philadelphia; San Diego; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Seattle; and Tampa, Florida, will all close.
The Enforcement Bureau will maintain a field presence in Alaska and Puerto Rico, and field agents will also rotate periodically through Kansas City.

The FCC will continue to operate field offices in Atlanta; Boston; Chicago; Columbia, Maryland; Dallas; Denver; Honolulu; Los Angeles; Miami; New Orleans; New York; Portland, Oregon; and San Francisco.
In addition, three offices will relocate to FCC-owned properties nearby to better use agency resources.
Rapid deployment teams will also be stationed in Columbia and Denver to supplement the enforcement efforts of other field offices when necessary and support high-priority enforcement actions nationwide.
