Site number change

Postby SkipSanders » Sun Mar 30, 2008 8:06 am

City of San Diego trunk system switched radio consoles and site number this morning, for whatever reason.

Used to report as being Site 0 on air, now reports Site 1 on air. Otherwise, same frequencies.

One SDPD officer is already complaining about the new tone.

'Too far a part' and 'Can't recognize the new tone(Too weak)'.

Reminds me of the 'Failsoft' tone on RCS system/motorola sys.

and confimed the new 'site #1'

Wonder if there will be a new site #2 this year..... not showing yet.
Update: Per Trunker. It's showing a 'Site 2 on 859.0750

Since this is from my software I can tell you that it basically says that within the master database a second site has been created but the hardware is not online yet.

And if some haven't noticed, digital voice is now enabled. One thing about supporting digital and analog is that talkgroups are setup in ranges based on their modulation format. For example, with the RCS analog is configured for talkgroups between 16 and 32736 and digital 32768 through 65504. What I've seen, as it's the easiest to setup when first designing the TG database, is to follow the old block-system that Type I uses. This creates eight ranges. RCS has four analog and four digital...essentially. Since City basically copied over their existing talkgroups they probably will have some out of the ordinary ranges for digital configured TG's.

Will SDFD be all digital?

I bet City will follow the path the RCS took and leave most routine channels in analog mode with a few digital tac channels. So I would say no. Over the course of time (year or years?) you should see PD transition to digital.

Eventually when the RCS goes P25 you'll have FD's in digital mode. By that time we should have advanced to Phase II of Project 25 and will be using a different voice coder (no longer IMBE).

I believe Site 2 is the IR site covering San Pasqual.
