The county has purchased nine new fire engines and seven water trucks and plans to to give them to fire agencies who protect the backcountry.

The equipment costs $4.2 million.

County Supervisors Bill Horn and Dianne Jacob plan to join fire officials at a Wednesday afternoon news conference in Kearny Mesa to announce the purchases.

“The addition of the new trucks moves us further along in safe guarding communities that literally are in the line of fire,” Horn said in a statement.

The fire trucks will be displayed in the lower lot of the county operations center annex on Ruffin Road, county officials said.
