Red Bull Air Race visits San Diego for the first time and will race right downtown on the Big Bay (http://www.thebigbay.com) against the beautiful backdrop of the city of San Diego. There will be two main ticketed viewing areas on the San Diego site, each equipped with all necessary amenities and services. We have one viewing area on the north of Embarcadero island and another on the south Embarcadero island.

Friday is the qualifying day (21 September)

SEPTEMBER UPDATE:

http://origin.redbullairrace.com/images ... Qs0828.pdf

Q: Can boats or ferries cross the flight box during the Red Bull Air Race?
A: No. To guarantee the safety of the planes and all water traffic, we have to close the area
around the race course. From Wednesday, September 19th to Saturday, September 22nd, there will
be no passing on the Big Bay of San Diego within the following timeslots:
Wednesday, September 19th: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Thursday, September 20th: 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM & 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Friday, September 21st: 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM & 11:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Saturday, September 22nd: 11:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Sunday*, September 23rd: 11:00 AM – 5:30 PM (*Only if Saturday is cancelled due to bad weather)

Q: Will there be a TV-broadcast of the Red Bull Air Race stop in San Diego?
A: Yes. The race will be shown on over 90 TV-stations in more than 80 countries all over the
world and has more than 750 hours in TV per stop. In the USA the Red Bull Air Race World Series
will be fully broadcasted on Fox Sports Net on Sunday, 11/11/07 at 6:00pm, on Monday, 11/12/07
at 3:00pm and on Wednesday, 11/14/07 at 4:00pm (within each local time zone).

Q: If I want to view the race events from my boat, where is the best place to view the race?
Do I still need to buy tickets to the race?
A: There are generally two areas that recreational boaters will be allowed to view the race. There
will be one section along the north perimeter of the Flight Box, and one along the south. The Coast
Guard will establish the minimum safe distance for boaters. Boaters must follow all guidelines of
the Coast Guard and remain clear of the Flight Box and approach lines of the race planes to
guarantee the safety of the planes and all water traffic. Please follow the directions of the harbor
patrol! Boaters may listen to event audio by tuning their radios to a local frequency, which will
provide live broadcasting at no fees.

Some stuff I found doing a Google Search:
Red Bull Racing Event Freq.
136.70 Red Bull Racing

All pilots use the same radio frequency during the race,” Jeff said.
“This allows the referee to speak to them if necessary, and also allows the pilots to ‘trash-talk’ the opposition!”

confirm Friday....

The most active air freq was.

122.85
&
123.4

but the best scanning was on the Marine band.
hearing all the boats and coast guard talk.

meet some very nice photo people where we were staking out our spot at
7:00am :)
near the Centennial Park.... The 'Ferry Fishing Pier' was closed for
everyone. due to that being a spot for the Medic if someone got hurt/plane
crash. and carry them off the water without having people on the pier.

Found a nice Burger King,TacoBell,KFC,Pizza Hut near the park :-)
at lunch we took turn to get lunch then the other guy watched the camera
gear/bag.

Posted from Coronado.

P.S Great FREE parking on C Avenue(100)...
cross street: First St. 1200 block'
very very close to the viewing area sidewalk

Plus with a nice free WIFI wireless area. Sitting in the vehicle.

Walked back to my trunk around 5:45pm putting everything away and a guy
walked up and asked me what Air Freq. they were using. (the guy said he
notice the 2 antennas on my truck that's why he asked me.

He said he was waiting for the new GRE digital scanners to come out. he's
been using uniden 996.

LOL! It was nice meeting you, Brian. Glad you liked the free street parking... but next time send me a note and I'll clear out a spot for you in the garage in our building you were next to... : )

I was scanning both of the frequencies you cite above and heard stuff at the beginning but not much after that. Maybe the race itself will be busier if, as suggested in another post, some trash talking occurs during competition.

Yep... I'm looking forward to the new GRE 500 mostly for the new programming approach and for better digital reception (needed down here). This will be a big switch, 'cause we've been Uniden for a while now (780, 996). And if the 500 works out we'll probably add the 600 for ease of synchronization.

Btw, great truck, guy!!

The race was cool to watch and I'm glad the weather cooperated. Also how 'bout that helicopter  That was awesome!

I ran close call and found 126.400 very quickly and the PA feed was on 452.600.

Are the aircraft parked and fueled at Brown? I noticed they would come in from the south.
