SDPD Cessnas?

Post by ChrisK »

The San Diego Police Department has two Cessna 182s listed in the FAA database, N701SD and N702SD. They've been registered since 1980 and 1990 respectively.

Has anybody ever seen them or know anything about them?

They are used for training and prisoner transport for the most part. (ie...there is a suspect in Vegas that needs to be brought back to San Diego. Cheaper and easier to fly him back in a 172 than going commercial or driving...)

By looking at the past flight history. Looks like it's based at Montgomery Field.

This was last tracked in 2006.

*Bump*

This plane should be taking off this evening at 18:00

Aircraft N701SD has just filed a flight plan.
It is scheduled to depart KMYF (Montgomery Field) at 18:00 PST heading for KSBA (Santa Barbara Muni) for an arrival at 19:20 PST.

Good catch on that, Brian.

Unfortunately it will be too dark at Montgomery to see anything but his position lights.

There was a Mohave County (AZ) Sheriff's Cessna 210 at Montgomery on Wednesday picking up a prisoner. He parked in the transient parking area in front of the terminal and walked the guy out in shackles. Actually, there was a prisoner already on board who they walked to the terminal, presumably for a "pit" stop, and then walked back, slowly.

Looks like they didn't use that IFR flight plan. Either they canceled the trip or they went VFR.

Years ago you used to hear an airplane with callsign 2020 assisting in SDPD surveillances - but that has been years since I've heard that.
