Re: Red Bull Air Race - San Diego Races May 9-10, 2009
ok... here's what's up today, Wednesday, 090506:
Today, planes apparently are based at Brown Field as indicated by takeoff and landing chatter on the BF Tower frequency
126.5
As they depart B/F and approach the race site, they are given a squawk code and they contact NAS Tower for area control on
135.1
Then they orbit in one of two holding areas (presumably offshore) until they are directed into the "box" (race course) for practice by "race control" on
126.4
After the timed practice run they are given their lap times and cleared to return to base by race control.
My recollection is that in past races the control frequency changes from time to time throughout practice and competition.
